Winter Stillness

Jingle bells, carols, punch and parties. Yep! ‘tis the season y’all. Talking with my mom last night about our busy schedules, she mentioned she looks forward to another aspect of the season: the stillness of winter. Nature is quiet and at rest. Bare branches and long nights encourage reflection. It can be a peaceful time.

It's funny she mentioned this – I’ve noticed a trend in holiday design that touches on this quieter spirit of the season. It’s a subtle departure from your typical holiday aesthetic: less fussy, more serene, but staying true to some traditional elements. I’ve taken this approach myself this year, emphasizing natural materials, especially heavy and lush cypress garland, pine cones and bare branches.
